Kagwe Mungai is a Kenyan Afro pop artist whose career was launched in 2013. His music has explored various musical directions such as, but not limited to dancehall, jazz, hip- hop, R&B and electronica. He released his debut EP, It Only Gets Better in 2013 accompanied by self-made music videos for the singles, “Oleku” . The music video for “Oleku” was successively selected as the best Kenyan Oleku cover in a survey held by Up Magazine Nairobi in 2013. Having worked along side musical acts in the United Kingdom, Mungai had the opportunity to collaborate with musicians and poets. In Africa some of Kagwe Mungaiʼs most notable collaborations came between Fena Gitu and himself in the song #Dutch. The song managed to peak at number one on several charts in Kenya and abroad. His 2015 smash hit single Give It To Me featuring King Kaka, that saw him nominated for the #MaleArtistOfTheYear. His 2014 mega hit #Creeper and of course the controversial single #NISHIKE that he produced for Sauti Sol
Mayonde has performed on world stages, having toured Europe performing in the musical theatre show, Out of Africa -The Magic of Kenya, as well as working with the popular dutch artist, Van Velzen and the well renowned Metropole Orkest, at the MasterPeace Amsterdam Concert in 2014 for an audience of 16,000 people. Mayonde was featured as the headlining act at the Kigali Jazz Junction in Rwanda, a popular monthly event held at the Kigali Serena Hotel and was also chosen to represent her country at the World Youth Forum held in Sharm El Sheikh Egypt in 2017. She also had the opportunity of working with some of the biggest African pop acts such as Yemi Alade, Diamond Platinumz, Vanessa Mdee and King Kaka on the hit television show, Coke Studio Africa for two successful seasons as a backing vocalist. In 2016, she worked on the musical score for the award winning Kenyan film Kati Kati with the Junge Orkest and performed it live with the orchestra at the European premiere in Berlin, Germany. She has also performed at popular local events such as Blankets & Wine, Koroga Festival, Industry Nite and was a judge on the first season of I CAN SING, a singing competition reality show on KTN Kenya.
