We travel Pan Africa with our February 2019 music schedule Qwela (Uganda), Mandla Mlangeni(South Africa), Sofaz (Reunion Island) and back home to our own Atemi (Kenya).
This week we present from the furthest south east corner of Africa from the island of Reunion the Maloya Fusion of SOFAZ. Check out their profile below
Sofaz looks like the Reunion island, as a melting-pot of cultures where songs, music, dance and poetry tell common dreams and reality, hopes and angers, and sublimate transe to link and relieve us. Thierry Devje was born in Madagascar et grew up to Reunion island, but it is in Toulouse that the band is created with is acolyte Edouard Chaize in 2012. A full crew of talented musicians join the motivating and innovative project quickly. Siaka Sanou as percussionist, Jamal Biidaa dancing et playing guembri, and Martin Etienne at saxophonist naturally complete this blending. Actually concentrate of brutal energy, Sofaz concerts are like a volcanic eruption. Ardent swarms of Gnawa dance exhale the powerful call of a gold sax. Kayanmb or guitar deep lava gush straight from the mantle of bubbling and fostering break beat and bass that the diamonds of Djemb magnify.
