Tribute to Achien’g Abura featuring Fely, Dyali Ogoti & The Simply Blacque Band

This tribute concert is the inspiration of FELY a.k.a Felister Ngunjiri in partnership with DYALI OGOTI and SIMPLY BLACQUE BAND.

Achien’g Abura was a celebrated Kenyan Afro-Jazz music artiste who was a standout member of the Kenyan music industry for over 20 years with eight albums as a singer, composer, pianist and performer. She was a KORA All Africa Music Award winner and was recognized by the Kenya Government for her contribution to music under the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).

Fely is a talented artiste who began her journey working with the late Achieng Abura (R.I.P) in the year 2004 as her Background vocalist and Personal Assistant for 10 years. She toured with Achien’g Abura around the continent and furthered her exposure to the diversity of African music as a background vocalist on Coke Studio Africa Season 1.

Lydia M Ogoti (DyaLi) begun her professional career as a background vocalist and choreographer for the late Achieng Abura in 2002. From her tutilage she was able to improve on her singing skills, and received exposure to recording music, song writing and band management.
She has traveled and graced international platforms in Senegal, during the festival in 2002, and 2010. Sauti Za Busara in 2004.
Later in 2008, she joined Suzanna Owiyo as a vocalist and the exposure took to greater heights. She had the opportunity of performing in festivals such as WOMEX (Spain), the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (USA) and projects such as Because I Am A Girl by Plan International. She has also backed visiting international artists performing in Kenya such as Les Tchielly Band from Senegal, Anyango Nyar Japan (Eriko Mukoyama) from Japan and the late Oliver Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe. The traveling and collaborations have greatly empowered her as a musician. DyaLis musical maturity and authenticity are heavily influenced by rhythms from Kenyan Benga and traditional beats from West and South African music and best of all, lifes experiences. She is also working on her first book, an African anthology of short stories and poems that touch the lives of African women in the past and present context of time.
