I had the opportunity to be invited to Kampala for the Doa Doa Arts Marketplace which took place on May 9th-12th 2018 at Uganda National Musuem. The event hosted and organized by the Bayimba Foundation featured various workshops & conversations on aspects of the music industry (both in Uganda and Africa wide), 10 showcase concerts, rocking dj after parties and studio recording sessions allowing for collaborations by musicians at the marketplace.
Kenya’s Afrosimba Band represented by Roots International killed their performance of their Mijikenda Roots music and was appreciated by delegates and event promoters from around the continent. Opportunities to share Afrosimba’s music to new audiences outside of Kenya look promising in light of the impression the band left at Doa Doa. Thanks to the Bayimba Foundation for making it happen and I’d like to encourage everyone watch out for the annual Bayimba Festival which takes place August 1-3rd 2018 on a lovely lakeside grounds outside of Kampala.
