Wambura Mitaru in Concert

Our March 2019 program is rich from the jazz of Buula, to the vocal powerhouse that is Silayio, followed by the Afro Benga Beat of Makadem, and lastly the soul/r&b flavor of Wambura Mitaru.

The Berklee College of Music Alum, Wambura Mitaru is a fluid singer/songwriter. Her prodigious music is an eclectic mix of funk, soul, R’n’B, jazz, hip-hop, which throb rich African roots. Young and passionate, Wambura is a singer and song-writer from Nairobi, Kenya.

In 2011 Wambura joined Berklee College of Music, where she immediately formed The Wambura Mitaru Synergy. Soon enough, the band became a sensation, performing at the Boston Arts Festival in the summer of 2012. The group of talented musicians have also performed internationally, and have featured in events including Close Encounters Festival in Helsinki, Finland and St. Petersburg, Russia (2013). Wambura has also held several concerts in Nairobi, Kenya.

Wambura has produced, performed and recorded with various artists in the US, Asia and Africa. From Indian iconic composer A.R. Rahman to Tanzanias Diamond Platnumz and South Africas Mafikizolo dotting her global repertoire while Blinky Bill, Atemi Oyungu and Chris Adwar adding to her diverse local experiences. Wamburas engagement with the many cultures largely plays out in her songwriting. Her concerts are an adventure, uplifting audiences to incredible emotional journeys through her music.

After the release of her debut single, “Work in Progress” on September 4th 2013, Wambura continues to grow with her fan base across the world, especially within her home-country, Kenya. She has released more music over the years and her most recent work, Wewe has had airplay both in the US and around the world.

After a brief hiatus in 2017, Wambura is currently in Kenya exploring new projects with both local and international musicians.

  • J’s Westlands is a 23 years and older venue.
  • The show starts promptly at 8pm so tables are held till 8pm after which they are opened to other customers.
